Nanny charged in death of ex-girlfriend

A Czech nanny was formally charged with first-degree murder Friday in the killing of his former girlfriend, another nanny from Brazil.

Martin Novotny, 22, of Ceska Lipa, Czech Republic, was being held without bail at Denver County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to be advised of the charges.

Novotny is accused of stabbing Ana Elisa Goncalves-Toledo, 24, Monday night after breaking into the home of her host family in the 2500 block of South Cook Street. A memorial service for Goncalves-Toledo will be at 10 a.m. today at the University Park United Methodist Church, 2180 S. University Blvd. in Denver.

Open house planned to discuss zoning

Denver officials are inviting the public to an open house today to learn more about a new type of zoning that calls for mixed-use, higher-density redevelopment along the city's commercial corridors.

The event will be in the Santa Fe room of the Ramada Inn at East Colfax Avenue and Downing Street between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Man, 19, sought in shooting, robbery

Englewood police are asking for help in finding a 19-year-old man wanted on suspicion of attempted murder, armed robbery and other charges.

Kalob Phillup Bowker is accused of shooting another man in the chest on Dec. 5 during a robbery outside Mama Mia's Pizza, 3531 S. Logan St.

Bowker is described as white, 6 foot and 175 pounds. Bowker is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Englewood police at 303-762-2438.
