The Colorado Department of Human Services plans to hire an outside firm to investigate a state employee's allegations that some colleagues conducted personal business on state time.
In addition, six-year-veteran Wanda Leingang charged in a letter to the governor that inappropriate and lewd material was presented at staff meetings and elsewhere and created a hostile working environment.
"The allegations are very, very serious," department spokeswoman Liz McDonough said Wednesday.
She said the department plans to hire an outside contractor "sooner rather than later."
"Once we receive the findings of that investigation, we will take whatever action is appropriate, if any," McDonough said.
In the meantime, Leingang, and the seven co-workers and supervisors she named in her complaint, will continue to work at the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation's Boulder office.
Leingang's husband, Dennis, said his wife described Wednesday's working conditions as "pretty tense."
He said his wife received "glares" from those she identified in her complaint.
