Antero Reservoir trout limit cut in half

The Colorado Wildlife Commission cut in half the number of fish that anglers can take from Antero Reservoir.
The action, taken in an emergency meeting yesterday, came after reports of excessive fish kills at the popular reservoir in South Park.
The emergency rule means anglers will be allowed to take just two trout of any size, rather than the four trout previously allowed. The rule is effective immediately and will remain in place for 90 days, according to Tyler Baskfield, a spokesman for the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
Antero Reservoir, a popular recreation spot, reopened July 17 after having been closed several years because of the drought.
The high number of anglers on the lake, combined with warm water temperatures, has stressed trout and raised the mortality rate, Baskfield said.
"The commission wanted to jump in front of this before there was a major problem there," Baskfield said.
