A CALL FOR POP PARITY

Gov. Bill Owens, who vetoed a measure requiring school vending machines to stock more healthy snacks, got a lot of mileage this week when he pointed out all the chips, candy bars and cookies available at the Capitol vending machines.

Democrats on Thursday had some fun tweaking the Republican governor.

Rep. Gary Lindstrom, D-Breckenridge, pointed out:

75 cents Cost of a can of pop in the public vending machines in the basement.

50 cents Cost of a can of pop in a vending machine outside one of the governor's offices.

Speaker Andrew Romanoff, D-Denver, joined in when he noted everyone had healthy Larabars on their desks, courtesy of Humm Foods in Denver.

"Accordingly, I have directed that all vending machines in the Capitol to be stocked with nothing but Larabars," he joked.

GREAT MOVIE, BUT IT'S NO 'STRIPES'

"Has anyone seen the movie Groundhog Day?"

Rep. Matt Knoedler, R-Lakewood, after lawmakers repeated the same arguments they made the day before on an immigration bill

"Rep. Plant."

Speaker Romanoff, referring to Rep. Tom Plant, D-Nederland, who asked the same question for the same reason during debate on the budget bill

"I've never seen Groundhog Day, and I'm sure after all the rhetoric today I wouldn't want to."

Rep. Dorothy Butcher, D-Pueblo, who opposed the immigration measure
