Tim Question: Hi. This is Tim, the moderator. Our first question today was submitted in advance by a reader. We'll have both Shehila and Daisy answer it. As a peer, is there anything you can say to persuade a teen who is thinking of dropping out from going through with it? How influential are teachers in this decision? (I admit, I’m a teacher.)

Daisy Answer: Well as peer I think that they should rethink about it first because once they did it's really hard. School is the best thing there is because it get us ready to go out into the real world and surive. Teachers can help by giving individal help or just being there for them.

Shehila Answer: Truthfully can be extremely influential! The fact that you care makes you that way. If you want to help a student to change their mind from dropping out pay more attention to them. Ask them questions about what is going on in their life let them know that you care and that you are there for them. What the article did not mention that I said was that my teachers at George were the most influential people in my life they held on to me because they believed in me. When someone wants to drop out its because they dont believe in themselves its up to you as an educator to believe for them.

d_christiner Question: and what do you do when your homelife and school life collide?

Shehila Answer: hmmm.... that is really hard my home life collided a lot. But at times school was my way out. Away from my mom and twisted family. When I succeeded in school I felt better about myself and I knew that I could get away through my education. As for students who have crazy parents embrace be the person to love them because obviously at the age of high school students are very fragile and can be broken. Mold them into survivors and indenpendant thinkers.

zapado Question: do either of you regret any decisions you have made in your life?

Shehila Answer: Absolutely! I regret ditching and failing study hall. That is the most embarassing thing in my life. I regret not trying harder in the beginning of high school and just trying to pass instead of excel in school I should have set myself apart academically.

zapado Question: do either of you regret any decisions you have made in your life?

Daisy Answer: I will never regret any decisions I made in my life because I love my daughter and for her I am her today at the point of graudtioning. School has been very hard but I made it!!!

Sally Question: have you ever thought about talking to students in classes about avoiding some of the mistakes you made?

Shehila Answer: Definitely I thought about it a lot after the reporters came. I think that my candid and blunt voice can reach students on a serious level. I dont sugar coat anything and I dont hide things when it comes to my opinion. Students can deal with that better than someone repeating the same cliches in ineffective ways

Sally Question: have you ever thought about talking to students in classes about avoiding some of the mistakes you made?

Daisy Answer: I have thought about and that woulod be pretty nice because then some of the students would know what I want through and how hard it has been.

d_christiner Question: It is obvious you are both strong women.. where does a teenage girl start with all the negative influences of peer pressure?

Shehila Answer: It takes a lot to be strong. It starts at home without a strong mother girls can feel worthless. They look for attention and love. They fall for the traps of boys who just want to have sex with them and leave them. They sometimes do this to seem wanted. Their body is all they have to give. Plus at that age you can either go to a positive or a negative it just depends on which side catches you first. Girls need to loved instead of criticized and allowed to express their inner beauty that they can so often be confused about

zz_john Question: What would you change about school to make it better for low-income students?

Shehila Answer: I would change the pay for teachers. They get paid peanuts. Society needs to get it together. How can you pay the people that educate your future so little and expect good outcomes. You get what you pay for. You want to be cheap you will get cheap results.

zz_john Question: What would you change about school to make it better for low-income students?

Daisy Answer: Well the change that I would make to school would be more help and more attention to low-income students

zz_john Question: What would you change about school to make it better for low-income students?

Shehila Answer: I would get better resources for teachers and books. Educate the poor as well as you educate the rich. And get rid of the teachers who dont care who have lost their love for teaching. THey are worthless to students who are already struggling

Sally Question: is it harder do you think for girls than boys in schools?

Daisy Answer: I think it's hard for both but mainly for girls because they go through a lot more like getting pregant and having to drop school to take care of their baby. And for boys sometimes they have to drop out to support their girlfriend by working and helping out.

d_christiner Question: I want to encourage you both to continue to be role models for your children and all women. We are living in times where the sky is our limit.. much success and God Bless you both on your journey through life.

Hi. This is Tim, the moderator. We're going to wrap up the chat now. Thanks to Daisy and Shehila for participating and thanks to all our readers for their questions. I'll be posting the transcript on the site in a few minutes.

Tim Question: is it harder do you think for girls than boys in schools?

Shehila Answer: I would say girls. They are scrutinized way more. They a lot of issues. They have a lot against. Girls and women always have to prove more to the world because of the gender. They have to deal with possibly being pregnant to be discriminated against for their sexual activity where as boys are congratulated for theirs. Boys have struggles too but I think that at times girls can be more supceptible to problems
