In Huskers-Buffs rivalry, opposites attract

They didn’t know it at the time, but they grew up behind enemy lines. The areas of demarcation would be defined much later in life. Jake Behrens, a University of Colorado fullback, was reared in Omaha. Pierre Allen, a Nebraska defensive end, was reared in Denver. Their common bond: football, and it will bring them together Friday in Lincoln, when the Buffaloes and Cornhuskers play for the 67th time.

Colorado State tackle Dane Stratton, a senior from Cheyenne, was posing for pictures on Johan Field with the Bronze Boot in his hand Saturday afternoon. CSU overcame a slow start and notched a 31-20 Mountain West Conference victory over Wyoming and the Rams will keep the traveling Bronze Boot that goes to the winning team in the Border War rivalry for the second consecutive year.

Another 10-win season for Texas Christian. Andy Dalton threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores and the No. 15 Horned Frogs’ defense mostly smothered Air Force’s usually potent rushing attack to win their regular season finale 44-10 on Saturday.

The growing pains continue for the University of Colorado men’s basketball team, but this time the lesson wasn’t so painful Trailing Harvard by seven points midway through the second half, CU increased its defensive pressure, went on a 15-2 run and won going away 70-57 on Saturday afternoon at the Coors Events Center.
