Frontier Airlines has received final approval to fly turboprop planes through its new Lynx Aviation subsidiary.

The approval covers up to 10 aircraft, and the company must notify the Federal Aviation Administration at least 45 days before it plans to exceed that total.

The FAA also requires Lynx to submit a progress report after its first year of operation.

Lynx, which is based in Westminster, plans to fly 10 turboprop planes between Denver and nearby mountain towns and resorts. It also has options for another 10 Q400 turboprop aircraft.

Frontier has not yet announced which towns Lynx will serve but is expected to reveal more details soon.

Service is scheduled to begin in September.
